THE ACTUAL STORY

It started because the old tool wasn’t ours.

Travail Ventures runs on real infrastructure, built by hand, because renting someone else’s was never going to be good enough. The first real thing — FERAL, an ad server — started as a replacement for a legacy platform that worked fine but wasn’t ours to control, extend, or trust completely.

Six months later, it’s running real production traffic for real advertisers. It’s also still got rough edges, because that’s what building something real, by yourself, in bursts, actually looks like.

HOW WE ACTUALLY WORK

Built in bursts. Verified, not assumed.

Early on, building fast meant moving on instinct — ship it, see what breaks, fix it, move on. That works, until it doesn’t: a bug shipped quietly, sat unnoticed, and took root somewhere it shouldn’t have.

What changed wasn’t the pace. It’s the discipline underneath it — diagnose before fixing, verify before trusting, checkpoint before moving to the next thing. Still built in bursts. Still built by one person who burns out and comes back. Just verified now, not assumed.
